From 4 to 7 July 2019, Brussels reached another milestone by hosting the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, the world’s third biggest sports event, alongside our iconic champion, the hugely charismatic Eddy Merckx.

Emotion, celebration, passion… Brussels shone internationally and showcased its attractions, hospitality and rich diversity. The major global celebration that is the Tour de France brought together a million people in a few days and proved once again that sport can unite us.

These unforgettable moments were made possible by collaboration between the City of Brussels and Brussels-Capital Region, with support from several partners.

The Brussels Major Events teams are proud to have helped bring such intense competition to the whole of Belgium!

After this experience, Brussels is more determined than ever to keep promoting everyday cycling.

HELLO SUMMER

Hello Summer is now officially the agenda of the City of Brussels’ summer activities! It gathers a lot of events that the City offers this summer: Enjoy the City, Guignolets, Vaux-Hall Summer, Detours Cyphers, Summer Pop, Classissimo, Festival Théâtres Nomades, Insifon, sports events, the new IN THE STREETS… The calendar is full of events! The summer of the City of Brussels is sure to be a festive one!

Laeken firework spectacular

About feux de laeken

In 2017, 2018 and 2019, a family-friendly village opened at the foot of the Atomium every Friday between late July and August, providing various activities with five themes for all ages. The fun times culminated in a spectacular firework display lasting around twenty minutes.

Since 2017, the stunning Vaux-Hall in the Parc de Bruxelles, behind the Royal Theatre, was opened to the public in the summer months with a diverse cultural programme.

Originally a concert hall and games room opened in 1781, the venue was radically redeveloped by the City of Brussels in 1913. After falling into disrepair, it finally came back to life a few years ago.

Vaux-Hall Summer has become an event popular with young and old, who come together to attend concerts, film screenings, storytelling sessions and performances, or to take part in workshops, dance lessons, games…

Thanks to some incredible collaborations, dozens of artists showcase outdoor art in this magical location every year.

Bright lights, big city.

Launched as Shop by Lights in 2012, this growing project brings Christmas illuminations to streets and shopping districts across the City of Brussels.

From late November to early January, the heart of the capital will be filled with light patterns. With Brussels by Lights, the City of Brussels brings the magic of Christmas to our shops and shoppers.
