We are r’Eddy!

From July 2017 to July 2019, the BME teams got on their bike to prepare for the Brussels Grand Départ of the Tour de France, the world’s third biggest sports event.

Tour fever came to Brussels from 4 to 7 July 2019 led by our iconic champion, the hugely charismatic Eddy Merckx. Numerous events staged in the 100 days prior to the Grand Départ made the heart of the capital cycle crazy for over three months. For the team presentations and during the two stages, more than a million visitors flooded into the city.

Emotion, energy, passion… the major global celebration that is the Tour de France proved once again that sport can unite the world. Thanks to the event’s success and popularity, Brussels shone internationally and showcased its attractions, hospitality and rich diversity.

The unique event was made possible by collaboration between the City of Brussels and Brussels-Capital Region, with support from several partners.

The Brussels Major Events teams are proud to have helped bring such intense competition to the whole of Belgium.

After this experience, Brussels is more determined than ever to keep promoting everyday cycling.
